Control Mechanisms for Filing Indictments in Israel

The State Attorney’s Office represents the State of Israel and government authorities before the courts. The State Prosecutor’s Office is part of the executive authority of the State, and it is part of the Ministry of Justice. In recent years, there has been a public debate regarding the Attorney General’s connection to the prosecution. The Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) proposes establishing an auditing body to the State Attorney’s Office similar to The British “Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service.” This policy paper examines the current model and offers significant policy changes.
